49ers Are Ready To Trade For Aaron Rodgers If Packers-Jets Deal Falls Apart

The 49ers are apparently jumping in on the Aaron Rodgers sweepstakes.

Last month, Rodgers went on the Pat McAfee and declared his intention to play for the New York Jets and revealed that the Jets and the Packers were in negotiations to determine what a fair package would look like in a trade.

“So, at this point, as I sit here, since Friday, I made it clear my intention was to play and my intention was to play for the New York Jets. I haven’t been holding anything up at this point. it’s been compensation that the Packers are trying to get for me.”

It’s been nearly a month since Rodgers’ appearance on the McAfee show and the Jets and the Packers have yet to strike a deal.

According to FS1 host Craig Carton, the 49ers are ready to pursue a deal for Rodgers if the Jets-Packers trade negotiations fall apart.

According to Carton, the Niners trade package for Rodgers involves multiple third-round picks in this upcoming draft and a first-round choice in the 2024 draft.

“The franchise is the San Francisco 49ers. They have Trey Lance coming off a broken ankle. They’ve got Brock Purdy, who is not going to be throwing the ball until August or September, and they signed Sam Darnold. They do not have a quarterback right now, maybe Trey becomes a stud.”
