It’s been over a month since Brittney Griner was sentenced to 9 years in prison for drug smuggling and we’re finally beginning to hear about how she’s feeling behind bars.
On Tuesday, Griner’s lawyer, Maria Blagovolina, provided an update on the WNBA star’s current emotions during an interview with People.com. Blagovolina revealed that Griner is currently stressed about her future due to the uncertainty of her situation.
“Brittney is stressed and very much concerned with the future,” Blagovolina said.

Griner’s attorneys plan to appeal the court’s sentencing.
“As a legal team, we need to do [the] maximum to get a shorter term,” Blagovolina added. “We need to use every legal opportunity that we have, and [an] appeal is one of those opportunities.”
It’s currently unclear on the status of the United States’ negotiations with Russia to get Griner home. Last month it was reported that the US had asked Russia to trade Grinder and jailed American Paul Whelan for the ‘Merchant of Death’ Viktor Bout.
