Broncos Cut Punter For Refusing To Take Pay Cut

Punter Sam Martin is going to be a new team next season.

According to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, Martin, one of the top punters in the league, was cut by the team for refusing to take a pay cut this season. Rapoport goes on to report that Marin will receive plenty of interest in the free agent market.

#Broncos P Sam Martin is being released today by Denver after indicating he would refuse any pay reduction. He was a top 5 punter statistically in 2021 and set Broncos all-time record for net punting last season. Will have interest.

Martin, who is a veteran in the league, was going to make $2.25 million this year which the Broncos will save in cap money.

A fifth-round draft pick of the Lions in 2013, Martin spent seven years in Detroit and has spent the last two years in Denver. He signed a three-year, $7.05 million contract with the Broncos in 2020 and had a base salary this year of $2.25 million, but none of that was guaranteed, so that’s what the Broncos will save on their salary cap by cutting him.

One team that will likely show interest in Sam Martin immediately would be the Buffalo Bills who recently released their punter, Matt Araiza, who was accused of raping a minor in college.

Corliss Waitman, has been named the starting punter for the Broncos .
