Dana White On Why The UFC Didn’t Pay Stephen Thompson After Michel Pereira Missed Weight

Dana White explained his side of the Stephen Thompson pay situation.

At UFC 291, Stephen Thompson refused to fight Michel Pereira, who missed weight by three pounds.

Days after the event, Thompson revealed that the UFC hadn’t paid him despite the fact that he made weight.

“At this point, my management is talking to the UFC, (but) nothing yet ,” Thompson told Ariel Helwani on “The MMA Hour.” “I feel like the UFC is going to do right by me. I’ve done everything that I’m supposed to do, and I tried to be as honorable as possible when it comes down to signing my contract and abiding by it.”

“I’ve done what they wanted of me, and I feel like they’re going to do right by me. Things are still in talks. I think they’re waiting for Dana White to come back from his vacation, and we’ll go from there.

During a recent press conference, White gave his explanation has to why Thompson hadn’t been paid yet.

“You decided not to fight, the guy was three pounds overweight, you get a piece of his purse if you take the fight… We also offered him another fight, there’s a much bigger story behind the scenes,” “No, you don’t just show up and say ‘yeah, I’m not going to fight, I want a quarter of a million dollars’, that’s not how it works, hasn’t worked that way for anybody.”

White did say that he’s trying to work things out with Thompson behind the scenes.

“We always make sure that we take care of everybody and we’re working it out with Wonderboy right now. It’s all being worked out behind the scenes and this should all be worked out by Saturday.”
