Elon Musk has chimed in on the Brittney Griner situation.
Last week, President Joe Biden sent a strongly worded statement condemning Russia for sentencing Griner to 9 years in prison. Biden went on to assure Americans that he would do everything in his power to bring Grinder back home.
“Today, American citizen Brittney Griner received a prison sentence that is one more reminder of what the world already knew: Russia is wrongfully detaining Brittney. It’s unacceptable, and I call on Russia to release her immediately so she can be with her wife, loved ones, friends, and teammates,” “My administration will continue to work tirelessly and pursue every possible avenue to bring Brittney and Paul Whelan home safely as soon as possible.”
During an appearance on the Full Send Podcast, Musk commented on the Griner situation and asked why the United States is working so hard to free someone in jail in another country for weed while people in the U.S. are in jail for similar crimes.
If the president is working so hard to free someone who is in jail in Russia for some weed, shouldn’t we free people in America? … There are people in jail in America for the same stuff. Shouldn’t we free them too? My opinion is that people should not be in jail for non-violent drug crimes.”
Musk had earlier expressed a similar comment about the Griner situation on his Twitter account.
