Ex-UFC Star Slams Dana White Over Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson Pay Situation

An ex-UFC star isn’t a fan of Dana White’s take on the Stephen ‘Wonderboy’Thompson situation.

Two weeks ago at UFC 291, Thompson made weight but his opponent, Michel Pereira, missed weight by three pounds. Thompson then refused to fight Pereira and is now involved in a pay issue with the UFC.

According to Thompson, the UFC hadn’t compensated him several days after the fight was supposed to take place despite the fact that he believes he was owed money for making weight.

UFC President Dana White clarified the situation on Tuesday night and said Thompson would not be paid his entire salary but would be entitled to some pay.

“You decided not to fight, the guy was three pounds overweight, you get a piece of his purse if you take the fight… We also offered him another fight, there’s a much bigger story behind the scenes,” “No, you don’t just show up and say ‘yeah, I’m not going to fight, I want a quarter of a million dollars’, that’s not how it works, hasn’t worked that way for anybody.”

“We always make sure that we take care of everybody and we’re working it out with Wonderboy right now. It’s all being worked out behind the scenes and this should all be worked out by Saturday.”

Former UFC middleweight Tim Kennedy took to Twitter and said he was involved in a similar circumstance in which he was required to take a fight on short notice due to one of his opponents missing weight.

“This is what happened to me after my scheduled fight with Rashad. I had to cut weight twice and fight a new opponents on short notice. Gastelum smashed me.”
