Jerry Rice thinks it’s ridiculous even to consider benching Trey Lance for Jimmy G after the first game of the season.
During his appearance “The Adam Schein Podcast,” Rice laughed off Schein’s suggestion that the team should consider benching Lance after his brought start against the Bears.
“Come on, don’t even go there right now. It’s too early for that, come on,”
Rice believes that Lance’s ability to run the ball puts him a cut above Jimmy G right now.
“That was just the first game of the season,” Rice said “First game of the season, and [Lance] made some great throws. He extended plays … We would’ve never done that with Jimmy G. And Jimmy G is an exceptional quarterback. He’s going to do some good things, but the one thing that Trey brings more is that you’ve got to prepare for him running the football.”
Whose side are you on?@JerryRice gets heated when @AdamSchein brings up potentially starting Jimmy Garoppolo over Trey Lance after week 1 of the NFL season.

Lance led the Niners in rushing yards with 54 rushing yards but only completed 46.4 percent of his passes while throwing one interception. The young QB took responsibility for his poor play and has promised to make better reads in his second game of the season.
While Jimmy G is currently the best-paid backup QB in the game it would be a disaster for the Niners if they would start him in place for the Niners right now.
