ESPN’s Marcus Spears doesn’t like what he sees from the Kansas City Chiefs.
On Christmas Day, the Chiefs lost to the Raiders in brutal fashion and have now dropped three out of their last four games.
On Wednesday morning, Spears was ready to write off the Chiefs as “Super Bowl pretenders.”
“They are pretenders. This hurts to say,” Spears said. “The big issue for me is these offensive tackles. When you start talking about the last time we saw Patrick Mahomes not have success, it’s been because he’s been unprotected. And then when they do make a play, they seemingly always have a penalty that negates it.”
Spears goes on to explain that while many people are focused on the Chiefs receivers, they should be looking at the offensive line that is failing to protect Patrick Mahomes.
“I think we’ve seen these receivers drop the ball so much that we haven’t really paid attention to how much duress Patrick Mahomes has been under,” Spears said. “He’s had to use his legs more in this regular season than I can remember him ever having to do.”
The Chiefs still have time to turn things around before the playoffs, but things aren’t looking good for them at the moment.
