Mike Vrabel Benched Malik Willis For Running Too Much, Not Throwing The Ball When Asked

While the Internet was abuzz with praise for Malik Willis in his debut, Titans head coach Mike Vrabel had some things he wanted the young QB to fix.

In his first NFL preseason game, Willis went 6-of-11 for 107 yards, 38 rushing yards, and 1 TD. During the game, several of Willis’ plays made for great highlights on social media.

After the game, Vrabel criticized Willis’ decision-making and wanted the rookie QB to be more decisive on the field.

“He needs to try to throw the ball when guys are open, be more decisive,” Vrabel said. “We’ll evaluate that, see if there’s a timing issue or what’s going on. Wanted to get him out there, see how he responds. There were some good plays and obviously some plays we’re gonna have to look at the timing on the release and if we’re making the right decisions.”

Vrabel says that he decided to bench Willis in the third quarter because he wanted his QB to throw the ball and Willis ran it instead.

Titans fans reacted to Vrabel’s benching of Willis.
