Ref Jerome Boger explained why he threw a flag on the Falcons on Sunday but fans aren’t buying his explanation.
In the fourth quarter of the Bucs-Falcons game, Falcons DL Grady Jarrett was flagged for a controversial roughing the passer penalty.
refs called this roughing the passer on 3rd down and i genuinely do not know what Grady Jarrett could have done differently pic.twitter.com/VX6i0UpJiL

After the game, Boger explained that he felt Jarrett “unnecessarily” threw Brady to the ground resulting in a penalty.
Referee Jerome Boger told pool reporter @gregauman that the roughing the passer penalty on #Falcons DT Grady Jarrett was for “unnecessarily throwing (Tom Brady) to the ground.” pic.twitter.com/rqxyNzjd6I

Falcons fans were not happy with Boger’s explanation.
Boger should be fined or suspended for even insinuating that Brady was “unnecessarily” thrown to the ground. It was a good/fair tackle and if anything, Jarrett let up some https://t.co/qyC42hZmrB

Jerome Boger is an absolute imbecile. Fire him to oblivion #NFL https://t.co/tbno2mzXqS

So when a defender gets past the OL and has the chance to sack the QB are they suppose to tap 'em on the shoulder and ask him to tackle hisself? https://t.co/AQ7e9ZV6Kp

Ummm, isn't that LITERALLY the point of the game? To get the guy with the ball to the GROUND?!? https://t.co/TdPDqFtKgv

LMAO “unnecessary” for @GradyJarrett to do what he’s been paid to do, which is tackle people. Just say the rules are different for Tom Brady dog… that shit is embarrassing, there’s no malicious intent. However, if Grady hurts himself from an OL cutting him there no harm no foul? https://t.co/kofFUb5JMb

"grabbed the quarterback while he was still in the pocket"
Yeah that's what defenders are supposed to do, it's called a sack https://t.co/U2WbedIcep
