Trey Lance still has a lot of work to do to earn the respect of his teammates.
Despite being the named the team’s starting QB, Lance was not named a team captain.
On Wednesday afternoon, the 49ers revealed who would be the team captains this year.
Tight end George Kittle and left tackle Trent Williams will be the only two offensive players serving as captains while defensive end Nick Bosa, defensive tackle Arik Armstead, linebacker Fred Warner and safety Jimmie Ward round out the list.
Lance spoke to the media about not being named a captain and he had no issues with the selections.
“Obviously that’s a goal of mine “You can’t look at any six of those guys and say he’s a bozo. All have played at a high level. I voted for each one of them and they all deserve it. It’s a goal of mine.”
Lance is only in his second year and still needs to prove that he’s a starter in the league. If Lance plays well this season and leads the Niners to a winning season, there’s no doubt that he’ll be named a captain next season.
